Community and Remembrance
The Year 3 curriculum provides a study of identity and diversity in both a local and broader context. Moving from the heritage of their local area, students explore the historical features and diversity of their community as represented in symbols and emblems of significance, and celebrations and commemorations, both locally and in other places around the world.

Elaboration in this unitIn this unit students look at trams in Brisbane as an example of change and trains as an example of continuity. Continuity and change is a critical concept for this unit. Not only should students identify the changes and continuities but they should also discuss the reasons for these changes and continuities.

In the Sorting Out phase of this unit, students sequence photographs and information about transport in Queensland to create a simple timeline. |
Throughout the unit, students use historical terms such as development, introduction, improvement, completion, ceased, decommissioned etc when talking about transport.
